Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the Navy method?

Within ±3-4% of DEXA scan results for most adults — much better than BMI for assessing body composition, much worse than DEXA.

How do I measure correctly?

Neck: just below the larynx. Waist: at the navel (men) or narrowest point (women). Hip: at the widest point. Tape snug but not compressing.

What's a healthy body fat range?

Men: 10-20% healthy. Women: 18-28% healthy. Athletes can be lower; "essential fat" (~5% M, ~12% F) is the minimum safe.
