What is a standard tip in the US?
15-20% for sit-down restaurants is the convention; 18-20% is increasingly the default. Counter service / takeout: 10% or none. Bartenders: $1-2 per drink or 15-20% on the tab.
Tip on pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Either is acceptable. Pre-tax is technically the cost of service; post-tax is simpler arithmetic. Use whichever your group agrees on.
How much should I tip on delivery?
10-15% of the order is typical, with a minimum of $2-3. Bad weather or long distance: more.
Is tipping the same internationally?
No. Tipping varies hugely — Japan and many parts of Asia consider tipping rude; most of Europe builds service into the price; Australia tips lightly. Check local norms.
