Frequently asked questions

How accurate is 220-age for max HR?

Roughly ±10 bpm. Individual variation is large. For precision, do a max-effort test or use a more advanced formula like Tanaka (208 − 0.7×age).

Which zone for fat burning?

Zone 2 (60-70% max HR) burns the highest *percentage* of calories from fat. Zone 4-5 burns more total calories. For weight loss, both work — pick what you'll sustain.
